From 19 to 25 November 1990, the former headquarters of the Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF) in Berlin-Mitte — a building under threat of demolition — became the conceptual starting point and venue for 'Dromomania: Cult and Ritual of Daily Movement'. This was the first project of a group of around 13 people called Botschaft e.V. The group squatted the fourth floor of the building on the corner of Leipziger Straße and Mauerstraße, renovated work and event spaces and initiated a crossover project between architecture, urban planning, art and citizen participation. Artistic works were combined with political issues, addressing the situation of the WMF building and the construction projects on nearby Potsdamer Platz. Activities inside the building, such as discussions, film and slide screenings, performances, concerts, and parties, were accompanied by various external actions, sometimes simultaneously, such as the use of large-format colour panels on the façade, the 'Traffic Jam Service', and the 'Rush Hour Walks'. As a result of 'Dromomania', the WMF building was listed as a historical monument two months later.
