Fishing for Documents

  • Documentary between Tradition and Experiment
  • Seminar in the 'Friseur' and film series in the cinema Babylon, Berlin-Mitte
  • 1992

The ‘richtig '92’ series of events organised by Botschaft e.V. explored border areas in which the evaluation criteria lie beyond ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, “true” or ‘false’. ‘richtig '92’ explored the concept of the documentary. In several events, the document as a reproduction and reflection of reality and its function in the fields of visual arts, film and electronic media were examined. The common goal was to counter the ‘disappearance of reality’ in the new media with possible strategies. The seminar and film series ‘Fishing for Documents’ was dedicated to the examination of documentary film. Six filmmakers, whose work with celluloid and video each bears its own unique signature, presented their working methods for discussion with the workshop participants: Hanno Baethe, Juliet Bashore, Romuald Karmakar, Harry Rag, Jayce Salloum and Walid Ra'ad as well as Shelly Silver. The seminars were accompanied by a film series at the Babylon cinema.
